What is a Blog (or a  Weblog)?

A blog is an online diary or log.

What is "let's blog!"?

It is a two-way () communication tool: from me to you and from you to me.

It is our way of talking in English outside of class.

It is a fun way for you to practice English away from school.

Everything you send me will be on this page!

Our blog will include fun and interesting activities, readings and exercises from the Internet that you can do at home when you feel like it (= quando te apetecer). You can also send me your suggestions of activities! I will publish them on this page.

So. . . when you have a suggestion, or something you would like to tell us, please click on the email icon on the right (the bottle). Don't forget to start your message with "Hello" or "Hi" and to include your name and class (7A, 7B, 7C) at the end! I will not publish anonymous messages!

Remember: We are in this together!

With your participation, this blog can be great fun!

Send in you first message right away and I will put it on this page immediately!

Let's blog!

'Decode' my message!

Find the "mystery words" behind the symbols (top left)!

The first student to send me a message with the correct words

will get a prize next class! Get to work!! Hurry up!!!

Your faces must be smiling like this nice yellow smiley on the left, because your summer holidays started today! Hurray! Congratulations!! Well deserved after nine and a half months of classes!!!

Curiously, some of you told me that you prefer school time, because you are with your friends every day and when you are on holidays, you can't go out whenever you feel like it (= sempre que lhes apetece).

Anyway, have a nice time. Be happy!

If you have the chance, email me. I would love to have news from you!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!  :-)

Hi Ana!

Guess what? Your message arrived last Tuesday, but I didn't see it because
it was sent to the 'Junk Mail' box.  :-(   I don't know why! This is
crazy!!!

I only saw it today, just now, in fact, and here I am to say thank you for
your nice message. It's great that you like our blog. And now you have
contributed to it!  :-)

I hope you have a very nice Summer vacation and don't forget to send me a
message now and then (= de vez em quando). I would love that. Remember to
let me know if you get into Salesianos de Manique, will you?

Subject: My last mensage

Hello tecaher!!!

In my last mensage, I wrote: "I like Mithology very much too!"

I like Mithology but I like archeology too! I bought one book about Cleópatra and have many others books about archeology and Mithology.

Last weekend, it was very hot! Did you go on the beatch? I didn't go! :-(

The school finish in 27th June. Yes!!! Nex, I going to go in Algarve. And you? Where are you nex?

Kisses,  Ana Cláudia  7.C

Re: My last mensage

Hi, Ana Cláudia!

So besides Mythology, you also like Archeology. Two very interesting subjects! Do you think you would like to study Archeology at university/in college?

Yes, the June 19th holiday was extremely hot, but I didn't go to the beach. Too many people! I stayed home where it was cool with all the windows closed and the blinds down (= estores corridos).

My holidays will be in August and I'm going to the Algarve, as usual. Will you be there in August? I'll be in Vilamoura. How about you? The final week of August I may go somewhere up North. I like it there very much and there are very interesting village festivals.

A kiss from your English teacher

23Jun03
summer is here! it arrived today! The smiling face on your left looks like the sun that only started shining in our area around mid-afternoon. Not bad, though, because it's a wonderful evening!

Tomorrow we start our countdown (= contagem decrescente) to our last day of school on Friday, June 27. It has been a nice year and I've enjoyed working with all my three 7th grade classes. You are all very nice kids and well behaved. Teacher love that!  :-)

Maybe we could have done more and advanced a little more in our Student Book, but. . . I always prefer quality to quantity. What we did, we did well and practised intensively. However, we all know that several of you should have worked more to learn more. Since you didn't, things will be more difficult for you next year in 8th grade. But I hope to be there to help you as much as I can.

The blog is going to continue over (= during) the summer. I will add new content (= conteúdos) during July, but will rest in August. Then I will start over in September. I hope some of you will find the time to come here and send me a message. If you don't, I'll feel very sad and lonely.  :-(

Before I go, let me remind you that on Wednesday and Thursday we will talk individually about your final grade. Think about the work you did during the year, what you deserve and why. Don't forget: you will be writing about it in Portuguese, as usual. What a relief (= que alívio), isn't it?!

Enough for now! See you tomorrow!

VIP(oint): In a second email, Catarina sent me an attachment with her revised project work (already included in the Project Work page). Below is my answer to both messages.

Re: =)  my work

Hi, Catarina!

Wow! You worked really fast! When I got home from school at six, after our
Apoio and a group meeting, your message with your revised text was here. You
are like Speedy Gonzalez!!  ;-)

What do you mean "on Thursday come out at 4.30"? Do you mean that on
Thursday you have classes until 4.30 p.m.? Not next Thursday! It's a
religious holiday. There's no school. Aren't you happy?

Well, see you tomorrow or maybe just on Monday. Email me when you feel like
it (= apetecer)! I will always answer.

Bye! Your English teacher

Hello Rodrigo!

How nice to hear from you! I'm glad you like 'our' blog. BTW, what games do you think are easy? Let me know, will you?

A nice week and a nice holiday on Thursday. I hope that the weather is nice for the beach. You like going to the beach, don't you?

Re: hi

Hi, Catarina!

That would be a great idea. You can copy the text into the email (I prefer
this option) or send an attachment. It will also simplify my work, because I
can also 'copy & paste' your text to the blog page.

Can you send it today or tomorrow at the latest (= o mais tardar)?

Thanks for a great idea, Catarina!  :-)

I hope to see in Apoio this afternoon.

Enjoy your holiday on Thursday! No English class is great, isn't it??!!

Your English teacher

Today I'd like to suggest that you visit a Picture Dictionary. It's great and it's fun! And it has activities that you could try (left column) to improve your vocabulary and. . . spelling! Enjoy!

I'm also preparing a Practice Page with different types of exercises about things we studied this year. I hope it'll keep you interested and in contact with English during the summer holidays (vacation, as they say in the United States). And promise to keep in touch (= contact) with me, too! Keep your emails coming! :-)

Hello teacher!

I saw my name in hieroglyphs and it's fun. I saw too the couple of comic strips.

Do you know? I like Mithology very much too!

See you in class

Ana Cláudia, 7. C

Re: I saw the page again!

Hello again, Ana Cláudia!

How nice that you revisited the blog and I'm glad that you found new things. Yes, the hieroglyphs are beautiful! Did you notice that the site was created by a museum in the United States?

How interesting that you also like Mythology. You must get together with Miguel in 7. A and talk about it.

I hope you have a nice long weekend and enjoy the holiday tomorrow - Santo António. Are you going to celebrate it? I may go out with my family to eat grilled sardines (typical of the Santos Populares - Popular Saints - celebrations until the end of June, right?) at a restaurant on the beach. The weather is lovely for it!

See you next Monday!

Your page is beautiful and fun! The blog is very good for students! IIIt's one page interesting. I don't have words to say what I think.

Thanks! Kisses  :)

Re:

Hi Hulda!

What especially do you like about 'our' blog? Have you visited any of the pages or done any of the exercises I have suggested? I'd love to hear your opinion. If you notice Ana Claúdia's message above, you will see that she comments on things she has seen here. You can do the same, Hulda. I know you can.

Have a nice weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather we are having. Are you going to the beach?

A kiss from your English teacher

Here are the first texts about "School in our grandparents' days". I will add texts as you hand them in.

10Jun03
Would you like to see your name written in hieroglyphs (ancient Egyptian)? Click here to try it out! It's very simple.

Mine looks beautiful! Let me know how yours looks.

Here are a couple of comic strips for you today. Click on the numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4.

The first one reminded me of your project work. BTW, don't forget the deadline is June 12.

And what about messages to post (= publicar) in our blog? You're all acting quite lazy and not keeping me busy! Come on! Let's have some action!

Subject:

Hello teacher!

I like very much your page! The blog is fantastic!

Teacher, I have one problem: I don't have my grandparents in Portugal! So, to do my project work it was difficult!, But, it's OK!

Good week! Bey, Bey!!

Louise, 7. C

PS: Thank you for the blog!

Re:

Hi Louise!

You don't have to thank me for the blog, it has been my pleasure! But you can help make it more fantastic! :-)  BTW, it's 'our' blog, remember?

Since your grandparents are in Brazil, do you have an older neighbor that you can interview? That would be interesting. You see, the older the person, the more differences you may find.

A nice week to you, too! Enjoy both holidays: our National Day on June 10 and Santo António, the patron of Lisbon, on June 13. It's going to be a very short week!

Subject: Finally. . .

Hi teacher!!!

Finally I went to see "your" page. . . It's very interesting.

Thanks for the "irregular verbs", they are very useful!

I read the other weblogs and I learned some new words.

It's fun to have a dialogue with others. . .

Bye Bye. . . and see you in class. . .

Kisses  -)

Priscilla, 7. C

Re: Finally. . .

Hi Pris!

I like your 'subject', because it made me think that "our" (your?!) blog is already three months old! Wow! I hope it has a long life and that all my students give great contributions to it, even during the summer holidays. Think about it!

Pris, did you read some of the Brazilian students' weblogs? Would you like to write to them? You can. Their teacher would like that. Yesterday we both had a chat and talked about that possiblity. I think it would be great for you all to have keypals (computer friends) in other countries. Yes, I agree that it is fun to talk to other people in far away places through the computer.

See you in class! A kiss

Subject: comment about the blog

Hello teacher!!!

To see your page it was very difficult, but I did. The weblog it's very interresting because the pupils 'esforçaram-se' - made an effort for the good work.

I think the "Irr. verbs" will help us in the next year. And we are thanks for that teacher.

Bye and see you later.

Loidiana, 7. C

Re: comment about the blog

Hello Loidiana! It's nice to hear from you.

Tell me, why was it hard to visit the blog page? Did you make a mistake when you copied the url (Web address) from the board in class? Did you make a mistake when writing the url in the computer? Or is there another reason? I'm curious.

Yes, I agree that there has been good work from the students that is making the blog interesting. I'm glad that you find the list of irregular verbs useful. I will add verbs as we study new ones.

Have a nice week and see you in class.

I tinke your site is so cool it is very educative, I lovet!

Question: Can I take som informacion of your site to help me on my homework?

Good bie teatcher

Tiago Almeida, 7. A

Re: comentário

Hi, Tiago!

It's great that you think the blog is 'educative'!

Are you asking for exercises like those we have in tests? Which? Ask questions? Circle and correct mistakes? Let me know exactly what you would like 'to help you with your homework' and I will gladly put some exercises here. But you will do them, won't you? Remember: practice helps a lot!

Can I make a suggestion? Do something about your spelling mistakes, Tiago. Read in English. Read as much as you can. Visula memory helps a lot. Make copies of short texts and check them. You can also try dictation with a friend. Don't forget to correct it!

See you in class on Thursday!

Did you also read about the project you are supposed to do for next week? I hope you hand it in in time.

See you!

Two things from me today:

First, I wish you all a very happy "World Day of the Child". Hope the weather is nice and that you can have some fun outdoors with your family and/or friends!

Second, I'm very happy with your messages and hope that you will start visiting the blog regularly, and sending email as often as you wish. Remember: this is a great way to practice English! And you can always ask when you have a question, such as Sara did about the Project Work (26May), a problem or a doubt. Jing gave a great suggestion: "And I have a suggest for "our" page, we can have a page, if we have problem, can write these in this page and teacher answers these problem for us. It's useful for studying English" (21May).
