What is a Blog (or a  Weblog)?

A blog is an online diary or log.

What is "let's blog!"?

It is a two-way () communication tool: from me to you and from you to me.

It is our way of talking in English outside of class.

It is a fun way for you to practice English away from school.

Everything you send me will be on this page!

Our blog will include fun and interesting activities, readings and exercises from the Internet that you can do at home when you feel like it (= quando te apetecer). You can also send me your suggestions of activities! I will publish them on this page.

So. . . when you have a suggestion, or something you would like to tell us, please click on the email icon on the right (the bottle). Don't forget to start your message with "Hello" or "Hi" and to include your name and class (7A, 7B, 7C) at the end! I will not publish anonymous messages!

Remember: We are in this together!

With your participation, this blog can be great fun!

Send in you first message right away and I will put it on this page immediately!

Hello teacher!

The school is fine and ex-7C is fine too. We have five new
teachers. I like all them. And you? How are you? How are the
5th graders?

Lots of kisses

Re:

Dear Ana Cláudia,

It's great that you like all your new teachers!

I also like my new students. They are very nice and sweet like you all were. But both classes are big: 28 students. What about yours? Is it as large as last year?

A kiss,

Re: Hi again teachar!

Hi, Ana Cláudia!

What a sweet message! Thank you!    It is good to know that we are remembered.

I miss you all very much, but fortunately I am getting along very well with the 5th graders.

And how is school going for you and the rest of ex-7C? How many new teachers have you got? Please say "hello" to everyone for me. And ask them to send me a message, will you? I'd love that.

A big kiss,

Hi, everyone!

Today is the big day! It's Back to School day!! I hope you all had a wonderful summer vacation and are ready to get back to work. Eighth grade will be a little harder - it's only natural! -, so you all need to work more. If you start right from the first day, there will have no problems.

Remember, I will be here to help you with anything you need. Just contact me. And if you need anything at school, you know where to find me.

A great school year to you all. Best wishes and good grades!

Your friend

HHHHIIII!!!!!

First of all I want to say that I am very sad too to know that you will not be our teacher for this year :..( but if you say that the other teacher is nice I belive you! However I am very happy to know that this blog is carry on and this project won't end (it never crossed my mind, of course!!!).
I'm writing, just like I promise, to tell you about my holidays (that unfortunatly are at the end!):
At the first two weeks of July I did an Intensive Summer Course of English that I passed with good notes. Sometimes at night I went to the cinema with Jing.
At the third week I went to Algarve where I have all the time at the beach!!!!!
The last week of July I spent in my house here in Carcavelos. I went to the beach here with Ana Cláudia.
In August I spent the whole month in a village called Carcavelos (strang, isn't it? I live in place called Carcavelos and I spend my holidays in a place called Carcavelos, too!) that stays 2 Km from a villa called Gois (have you heard about it? It stays near Coimbra). It was GGGGGRRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT! Is this enough to express how good was to be there? I have a lot of fun! I went to the river in the morning and in the afternoon with my two friends and at night we went to the villa walk. We have made a lot of friends!! You don't want to know how difficult was to say goodbye!!!
At last weekend I went to Algarve again!
On this week I have seen Jing almost every days!!
Well I have finished my report of my holidays. You must be tired of reading my message, aren't you? Well, I am tired of writing it!
I just want to say one more thing: I love the idea of the chat!! We can fix a day and an hour to me, you and the other people talk in that chat!
UUUFFF!!! I think that I don't have nothing more to say (you must be saying right now: Uf! Aleluia! That crazy girl doesn't shut up!).
Bye-bye and best wishes
Joana

Re: hello!(again)

Hi again, Joana!

It was great to read such an enthusiastic description of your holidays! I loved it!! And, no, I was not exhausted at all. I wish other friends and colleagues of yours would do the same.

It is a very interesting coincidence that you live all year round and spend part of your vacation in two completely different places with exactly the same name. Quite unusual, isn't it?

I'm glad you took that intensive English course. The more you learn, the better for you and your future, Joana. After all, English "is" the international language. It is very useful in most fields in life.

Well, I'd like to hear other opinions about the blog - thank you for yours  - and later on we'll talk about the chat. I would also love to do it.

In the meantime, say "hello" to Jing and Ana Cláudia, and please ask them to write about how they spent their summer and to give their opinion about my suggestions.

And don't forget to rrreeeaaalllyyy enjoy your last weekend before school starts again. The weather is fabulous. Maybe just a little too hot.

Bye, Joana. A kiss from your former teacher and friend

Hi, kids!

My face is sad today, very sad. I have bad news. At least it's bad news for me. I will not be your teacher this year. I will have two 5th grades.

This has to do with orders from above. Of course I asked to continue with you all. I really wanted it.  :-)  However, there is nothing I can do. I tried to change things, but I was told it is not possible.

I've been feeling very sad, but have slowly started to 'think positive'. The fact is that I also like the younger kids, but I would have liked the chance to go with you to 9th grade and complete a couple of projects: continue our blog and try chat.

Well, both are still possible, if you wish. The blog is the easiest to carry on (= continuar). It can continue to be a fabulous experience and even become a great experiment for me. Besides,

  • it will show that we "became friends" and want to correspond as friends do.
  • it will show that this page/project meant (= significou) something to you and me. It has meant a lot to me, believe me!
  • it will be my way of saying: "I'm here when you need me!" (I remember Jing commenting on how useful the blog could be for asking and getting help. Take a look at her suggestion.)
  • it will be my/our way of thanking those English teachers, colleagues of mine, in Spain, the USA and Brazil (to name a few) who have so enthusiastically talked about our blog and even analyzed it in preparation for a conference!
  • last but not least, it will be my way of not being so sad at having lost you all as students, and of feeling closer to you!

I'm going to cry in a second!

Well, I talked to your new teacher today - she is very nice! - and it is all right with her we continue our blog. But it does not depend only on her or me. Above all, it depends on you!

So, first I would like to hear what you think about my suggestion. Please send messages telling me what you want me to do.

If your answer is "yes", later on we can try chat - in English, of course! - if you wish. :-)

I hope to hear from you. Start sending those messages! See you next week!

Your former English teacher and friend,

Teresa Almeida d'Eça

Subject: HHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....and sorry:(

Hello, teacher!

First of all, I want to say two things: "SORRY for be so late (I hope that you will forgive me)" and "THIS BLOG IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!".
I have read your message "Hi, kids" and I want to tell you that I am very proud too!
At the  moment I don´t remember any sugestions for the blog, but don´t worry because if I remember anything I will tell you!
I´m happy to know that you spent a fabulous days in Algarve! How were your holidays in the North?
I will send you another message to tell you how were my holidays!
Best wishes and a big kiss for you from,
Joana

Re: HHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....and sorry:(

Hi, Joana!

It was very nice to see you at school this morning! Are you already missing classes, friends and teachers?!

Of course I forgive you. Although I was hoping you would write sooner, it is perfectly all right and there are 'no hard feelings'. On the contrary, it is always a great pleasure to hear from my students and to feel their enthusiasm for our blog!

I hope you do write again to tell us about your holidays. I'm planning on making a Web page with photos of two very original villages we visited in the North. When it is ready, I will put the URL in the blog.

Enjoy your last ten days of holidays. The weather is beautiful and the beaches are almost deserted, which is great. At least, that's how I like them.

Joana, please don't forget your message about your summer!    You were also in the North, weren't you?

A kiss from your teacher,

Teresa Almeida d'Eça

Hi, kids!

This afternoon I decided to do a search in Google about our blog and was very surprised to see that it is also referred in a Brazilian blog called [zaptlogs], maintained by Suzana Gutierrez, a colleague of mine in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Look for 26 Aug. 2003.

Our blog is getting very international, isn't it?

Here is the message I sent Suzana.

Hello from Lisbon, Suzana!

I have just done a search on 'Let's Blog!' and came across [zaptlogs]! Congratulations on the interesting collaborative work you are doing and thank you for the link to my teacher-student blog.

Your "I'm here!" message to Alberto Delgado is fabulous! Corrections? No way!

BTW, I just noticed that my message to him starts out with a typo!!! Shame on me! ;-)

Sorry for writing in English, but I will publish this message in 'Let's blog!', which is in English only.

One last thing: I deciphered Carmen's enigma. It's "Uma boa estrela espanta nossos demônios e nos regenera!!! Eu, religiosa Heim???". How about that! ;-)

Best wishes,
Teresa Almeida d'Eça
