Dear Ana Maria,

How nice to get your lovely message with such beautiful flowers for Dennis and me! It was a lovely way to start my Saturday!

So you have been to your country, Moldova, and are now back in Portugal. How were your holidays? Did you see all your family? What did you do? How did you spend your days? How was the weather? Are there any photos you can show us? I would love (= adorava) to hear all about it!!! And so would Dennis, I'm sure.

I will be here most of the holidays, so I hope we will stay in touch (= mantermo-nos em contacto). Yesterday I had a short chat with Pedro L. at MSN. Do you have an MSN or Yahoo Messenger ID?

Thank you for getting in contact as soon as you arrived. Did you show our blog to your family and friends?

Have a good rest and a great weekend!

Hugs from your teacher and friend

Subject: "Have Fun with English"  [Ana Maria, this is especially for you!]

Boa tarde!

I just visited "Have Fun with English" again and was especially impressed with Ana's poems. The thoughts were very beautiful. It helped to view them in English, then in Portuguese, then in English again.

Please give Ana my congratulations. Poetry, I think, is the most difficult form of writing (and also often very difficult to translate).

Abraços!

D. O.

Dear Dennis,

What a fan you are of "Have Fun with English"! Fantastic!!

I was so impressed with Ana Maria's poems and thoughts that I asked her permission to publish them online. I was never one for poetry, neither writing nor reading, but I admire kids with Ana's talent and sensitivity.

She's Moldovan and will be going home for a few weeks with her parents. She's very happy.

I hope she reads your message, because she'll be very proud!

Hugs,

Teresa

Subject: Re: Re: "Have Fun with English"

Hi, Teresa.

Hopefully, you're sound asleep as I type this!

Yes, I'm a very great fan of "Have Fun with English." I think you and
the students have accomplished some amazing things!

I also admire Ana Maria's talent and sensitivity and was amazed at what she'd
written.

Are there many Moldovans in Portugal? It seems wonderfully exotic to me
that she's studying there! What was her first language? Moldovan, I
understand, is pretty much the same as Romanian.

She certainly SHOULD be proud! I hope she reads it, too.

Take care, my friend.

Abraços!

D. O.

Hi, kids!

Here are two sites you should visit! One is Ale Weser's Our Sixth Grade Blog for her students in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. Do you remember Ale? Of course you do! Well, read the messages from the teacher to her students and vice-versa, and try some of the great exercises that she has created. Then send me and/or Ale your comments!

The other site is Robert Palmer's Tapping Turtle... the fun place to study English! Try the Movie Exercises (it's best to start with the wrm up exercises first) and Turtle Quia exercises (click the links on the left). I'm sure you'll enjoy these activities!

If you like the movie exercises and want to try to make an animated movie, go to DFilm Moviemaker and... have fun!!! Don't forget to send the URL of your films. We all want to have some fun!!!

I'm very happy today, because Porto Editora, my publisher, considered "Have Fun with English", this teacher-student blog, Site of the Day in their Educare site.

This blog project shows that "High expectations encourage high achievement: For some time now, we've known that younger students tend to achieve more by working with teachers who expect more of them" (A Teacher's Dozen). I couldn't agree more!

This very special recognition (= reconhecimento) belongs to all my 6F and 6G students. Without them, their motivation and their enthusiasm, none of this would have been possible.

A big and very happy "thank you" to all my students involved in this project!!!

Hi Teresa,
I'm sending a belated "congratulations" for having your site named as the site of the day.  Your web site is really super and it deserves to be advertised!!!!!
Beijinhos,
Ramona (Lisbon area)

Dear Tere, I'm a little behind in all my greetings, but I did want to
especially congratulate you on this recognition.  Your site is an absolute
delight for anyone who goes there, but I'm sure it's your students who
profit the most: and they have the real thing with them.

It's amazing to think how many more people you'll be able to reach.  Not
only will they be able to use and enjoy your work, but also, I'm convinced,
they will somehow feel all the caring and love you've put into it.

Super Lady, congratulations!  And lots of hugs to go with that.   Barb (Germany)

Good morning, Ana Maria!

Now I understand your poem perfectly. It's very nice and with a lot of meaning (= significado)!

You certainly are developing your ability to write English! Isn't it fantastic that we have the chance to practice outside the classroom and after the school year is over (= finished)?

Can I put yesterday's messages and this one in our blog?

Hugs from your English teacher and friend

Subject: What's the use of studing?

Teacher, I saw the poem or what is it: the more we know, the more we forget,

The more we forget, the less we know,

The less we know, the less we forget,

The less we forget, the more we know.

So what´s the use of studing?

Know you see why we never study!(I am joking)

Subject: Re: What's the use of studing?

Hi, Ana Maria!

What a great joke you made!!!

Are you enjoying your holidays? Do you go to the beach?

Yesterday I had a chat with Pedro L. at MSN Messenger. He told me that Rodrigo is in Brazil. Did you know that? I didn't. Lucky him!!!

Hugs from your English teacher

P.S. Please don't forget to write your name at the end of your text.

Subject: Dear Teacher!

Hi teacher, yes I am enjoing the hollidays.

And yes, I go to the beach.Teacher I think I don´t go to Moldova this Hollidays. JKL

I don´t know if I am happy, angry or so -so.

Ye, Rodrigo is Lucky!

If you are tired, I have a think to say:

The happy wait from : Who cry

                                      Who suffer(sofre)

                                      Who try

                                      Who search

                                      Who are tired

Because only that persons may apreciate that moments because they leave a mark in their life!

   Ana Maria (6F)

This is what Ana Maria means in her poem (as can be seen in a later message, in the Portuguese version):

Happiness waits for...

Those who cry

Those who suffer

Those who try

Those who search

Those who are tired

Because only those people can appreciate those moments that left a mark in their life!

Subject: Re: Dear Teacher!

Dear Ana Maria,

I feel sad for you about "maybe not" going to Moldova this summer, but why don't try to understand why you aren't going, and then think about it very carefully? Maybe there is a very good reason and maybe it's hard for your parents to make that decision. So... don't be angry! Put a smile    on that nice face! And... try to help your parents, if you can. Maybe they are also having some hard moments.

I'm not sure I understand the poem you sent me and I'd like to (= gostaria). I think there is something missing (= falta qualquer coisa). Is it a Portuguese or a Moldovan poem? Could you write it in Portuguese for me?

I like the image you sent.

Hugs from your English teacher

Subject: My think [My idea]

It´s not a poem, it is the form how I think. I don´t know if it is correct, but it is the form how I think.

My mother was joking, she have the ticket, I saw them!!!:-)

Ana Maria,

Yeeeessss!!!   I'm so glad that your mother was joking!!!! When do you leave for Moldova? In August?

I understand that it's the way you think, but could you say it in Portuguese? I will see if something is missing, all right?

Hi, kids!

How are you? And how are your holidays going? Enjoying yourselves? I've been more relaxed. I still have work at school, but it's different when we don't have to teach.

Well, I want to tell you about a presentation on Vasco da Gama Bridge that I did last Tuesday, June 28, for Dafne's Architecture and Urban Planning students. It went very well and I think that everybody enjoyed it. Dennis was also there!

Take a look at it and don't forget to watch the photo story. You can also listen to the recording and see the slides I showed in real time!

Don't forget to send messages with your comments!

Hugs and kisses!
