Dear Rodrigo,

I'm fine and I had wonderful holidays in Spain with my husband: Seville, Barcelona and Valencia. Lovely cities! And I met two friends from my Internet work group. I came back on Friday afternoon.

I'm happy that your holidays have been great. Did you eat many chocolates and almonds? I didn't.    But I ate different food and liked it.

See you tomorrow in school at 10.30.

Subject: hello

Hello Class,

My name is Marcela Calchei from Moldova (try to find my country on the map)and I teach English at a local University. Here in Moldova we celebrate Easter on May,1 we use the old calender for religious celebration.

I have read your messages and one if them in particular intrigued me. Mateus wishes his teacher a happy Easter with lots of almonds. Why almonds? Do they symbolize anything?

Good luck and enjoy your English classes,

Marcela Calchei

19Mar05
Subject: Re: hello

Hi, Marcela!

How nice to have a BaWer from Moldova send my students a message! Thank you!

And what a coincidence that we have a student in 6F from Chishinau, too! Her name is Ana Maria. She's going to love your message, I'm sure.

Why do we eat lots of almonds at this time of year? What do they symbolize? Hmmm... Maybe it's because we grow great almonds in Portugal, especially in the South.

In any food store at Easter, from the small neighborhood grocery store to the big supermarkets, you will find all sorts of almonds: sugar coated with different colors, with a caramelized sugar coating, covered with chocolate, etc.

I guess I have taken it for granted all my life and never asked myself "Why?". Good question, Marcela.  Anyway, I'll have to try and find out.

BTW, we also have fabulous desserts made with almonds and eggs. Yummy!!!

How interesting that your Easter is only in May! I had no idea.

Mateus will send you a message the first week of classes of the 3rd term. I hope not to forget. And I will try to have them place all the teachers on the map.

Best,

Teresa

Dear Ale, Bee, Cristina, Daf, Leanne, Linda, Rita and SusanB,

My students have left a voice message for you (17Mar) in our blog. It's also for Agata, Tommy and Wojtek, their Polish friends.

http://wwwin.malhatlantica.pt/teresadeca/school/fun-with-english5.htm
(However, once again, the server is down temporarily.   :-(   It should be working again in about two hours. It's now 16.00 GMT.)

Anyone wishing to send them a message, please click the mail link at the top or bottom of the page.

In the meantime, I created an interactive map for them to put the names of all the teachers who have sent them messages. We tried inserting the names in class yesterday, but the computer I was using didn't have all the needed software, because the Post button wasn't active. All the others were!!  :-(

Excited about it, two of the students have already posted their names! I'm so glad that they are motivated!

There's a link in the blog page (Interactive map) or you can go directly to

Have a great weekend!

Hi, kids!

When I arrived home yesterday after school, I saw that the Post button in our blog interactive map was working. I sent Rodrigo a message asking him to try it. He did... and it worked!

In the meantime (= Entretanto) I sent the Bravenet team a message telling them about the problem we had in class.

They explained the probable cause: pop-up blockers! We will see in class tomorrow if everything works perfectly. I hope so!

See you in Room 5 at 8:30 for our last class of the 2nd term!!!

And then it's Easter with lots of yuuuummmmyyyy chocolate eggs!

Does it work in your computer? If it does, try inserting the name of one of the teachers and also the flag of her country, ok? And then let me know.

Dear Matilde,

I'm answering your message a month later! I think that this is a first time ever (= alguma vez) for me! [I need to explain to our readers why this happened. Matilde was at home with the flu (= gripe) for several days and didn't come back to school before the Easter holidays, so she only handed me this message in class yesterday.]

I would also love to be your teacher next year! Excellent students like you are a pleasure for any teacher! I'm glad I have a few excellent students this year in my three 6th-grade classes. It's fantastic!!!

Say 'hello' to your parents for me! Have a great weekend!
